Dr. Ellen Berrey is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto. She also is an affiliated scholar of the American Bar Foundation and Secretary of the Law & Society Association. Her research examines how organizations, law, and social movements can promote and prevent progressive changet. Her current study investigates campus protests and responses by university administrations and police in the United States and Canada. She is the author of two books: The Enigma of Diversity: The Language of Race and the Limits of Racial Justice (U of Chicago Press 2015) and Rights on Trial: How Workplace Discrimination Law Perpetuates Inequality (U of Chicago Press 2017). She received her AB from Brown University and her PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University.
